Searching for Silver in Mexico

Sometimes the thing you're looking for isn't the thing you end up finding.

Most people come to Cancún looking for beaches.

I came hoping to find silversmiths.

Not because I needed souvenirs, but because I wanted to better understand the hands behind the work.

I've always believed that every handmade object carries a little bit of its maker with it, and I wanted to meet the people who spend their days shaping silver the same way I spend mine shaping leather.

Following the Next Conversation

That search didn't begin in a jewelry store.

It started with conversations.

A recommendation from one person led to another. A small market stall became an introduction. An introduction became a phone number.

Before long, I found myself wandering places I never would have discovered if I'd only followed a map.

That's one of my favorite ways to travel.

Not checking landmarks off a list.

Following curiosity.

More Than Silver

Whether or not these conversations lead to future collaborations almost doesn't matter.

The experience itself has already been worth it.

Every artisan has a story.

Every workshop has its own rhythm.

Every craft has lessons that don't show up in instruction books.

Those are the things I hope to bring home with me.

Every artisan has a story.
Every workshop has its own rhythm.

Because while I came looking for silver...

I think what I was really searching for was connection.

And sometimes, those turn out to be the most valuable discoveries of all.

Crafted by my story. Finished by yours.
